This Might Motivate You - What is Your Legacy?

This Might Motivate You - What is and will be your Legacy?

How do you want to be remembered? Do you want to be remembered as an upright, intelligent, wise person or contributor to human development? What do you want leave behind? Do you want to leave a book of wise quotes, poems, stories others can learn from, or simple a personal history of your life for those in the future to learn about your era in history? Many of us possess a wealth of wisdom and experience that dies with us which could have served as a beacon of light for those who will come after us. Many wise parents die without leaving their wealth of wisdom for their grandchildren from which to learn. Many of us know little about our great grandparents as insufficient information was left. The reality is that one day we will be great grandparents may not be remembered also if we don’t leave sufficient information. This is legacy!

Another side of legacy is that it makes us conscious of current actions and behaviours. If you want your children have a good role model then you must leave a legacy of a good role model. If you want to leave a legacy of action and diligence then you must embody that. I want to show my children that they can be whatever they want to be through my legacy. I want to show them that they can live their dreams if they set clear goals, are tenacious and determined. I want them to understand that those who are proactive and bold go the furthest in life. I want to show others through my actions, workshops, materials how to improve their quality life with simple steps. It is sad to see so many people unconscious of the power of the legacy they are leaving. I see men who womanise and disrespect women leaving a legacy of mistrust, disrespect and anger amongst their children. They act as if their negative behaviour will not have a negative result in the future. I see parents who spend little quality time with their children leaving them to legacy of modern television and gangster rap! They seem to care little about tomorrow’s results of today’s actions.

The ancient Greeks, Egyptians, Indians, Amerindians, Iranians understood the power of legacy and left us beautiful buildings, arts, writing, philosophies and literature. Do you want to be remembered as can doer or a cannot doer? Do you want to be remembered as someone whose example from whom one can learn or deride? Many problems in today’s modern society are a result in part of the negative legacy left by those who came before us. The problems our grandchildren may face may be a result of the legacy we leave. What will you leave? How do you want to be remembered? Will your grandchildren even know who you are? Remember the power of legacy!
