I don’t know about you but if you are anything like me and I know there are a lot people out there are then you probably come up with three of four great business ideas per day. Or you are one of those individuals who has a multiple of interests and not enough time in the day even without the day job to do all the things which interest you. It is great to have a number of interests and to have stream of profit making ideas come to you daily if you have a clear sense of focus! However, many of us do not. For many years, I was as so many other people out there wondering in the world of my ideas and interests attempting do everything and achieving nothing. I knew a lot about many things but was going nowhere fast with my wealth of snippets of information. Until one day when I sat down and thought something is wrong. I looked at those who were successful and notice that the vast majority were successful because ‘they focused on thing at time’ they focused on a project until they finished it and then improve upon it and developed it. Many business that offered numerous services and products were not offering necessarily different services or products from the original they were offering modified forms.
The authors of the original Chicken Soup for the soul for example went on to produce a whole range of chicken soup books such as chicken soup for the teenage soul, chicken soup for the African American soul and so many more. They didn’t actually create a different product just produced new content for a particular group based on the original model. As soon as I understood this I began to prioritise my projects with the most important one as the one that I focus most attention. In three months I had produced my first rough draft. A few months later I had edited and prepared the book to be published and began on my next project related to the first book. Focusing on one thing at a time had allowed me to achieve far more than I ever could have attempting to follow various interests and ideas as I had done in the past. I also came to appreciate how I could benefit from the Chicken Soup model to create multiple products all following the original concept yet different. My experience and observations have taught me that if you want series success in your life focus on one thing at time and don’t stop until you have completed it. This is applicable to business, hobbies, education and relationships. So if you are person with multiple ideas and interests take the time now to decide what idea or project is most important to you and focus on that until you have completed it. You will amaze yourself at how quickly you can accomplish a significant goal in a short period of time with razor sharp focus.
